I made it!!!
After an emotional morning and a very adventurous day of travel, I am in my apartment at the school - safe and sound... I met two of my fellow teachers at the Atlanta airport, and we only had a couple of issues. After we boarded our plane to Tegucigalpa, and when we were next in line for take off, our flight crew got the message that the Tegus airport was refusing all incoming flights. They said it was some type of air traffic control strike or something. After about 15 minutes, they got back on the intercom and said it was a governmental issue and that our government was talking to their government, but that it would be about 45 minutes before we got any answers. So we sat at the gate for an extra hour, but we were blessed to have tv and movies on the seats in front of us, so it wasn't too bad. We took off about an hour late, and when we took off, the pilot said there was still no resolution, but they were hoping things would get cleared up while we were in the air. I guess everything worked out because even though it was a rollercoaster ride coming down and truly a very interesting landing on a short runway, we breezed right through customs and baggage claim and everything. We rode the schoolbus up the mountain and literally felt like we entered a different climate. The weather already seems beautiful here! All I've done so far is chosen my bedroom and now connected to the Internet. We have a dinner at 6:00 at the superintendant's house, so I have about three and a half hours to unpack and maybe even squeeze in a nap!
