Newton's First Law...

On a student's paper to explain Newton's First Law (an object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion...):

"...for example when you have a house at midnight it will blow away if you don't have the 1st law."

Seriously? What does that even mean?

I would feel bad about my teaching if 90% of the class hadn't answered it correctly or if I didn't know the kid who wrote it.
